  • Great product, very helpful in keeping all my computers 'in sync'. ;-)
  • Nice job on the '?' button, forwarding to the Wiki for immediate updated help.
  • Great idea on the web-interface access to Bookmarks.

(Messages for Todd)

1) May 9/10th, oddity issue

When making one change on each and then syn'ing bookmarks to server. Oddities.
Two PC's (Linux Suse 9.3, FireFox 1.5, FoxMark .067, other extensions turned off)
One PC/laptop (Windows XPsp3, FireFox 1.5, FoxMark .067, other extensions on)

Foxmark would...

sync any additions
Not see any deletions from 'Bookmarks Toolbar Folder'
Sometimes not see the updates from one PC to the other.

(Tested several times from each PC)

Thanks for your detailed reports and suggestions.
There is a known issue with synchronization of the Toolbar across different platforms, as Firefox tends to have different names for the Toolbars on different platforms, and Foxmarks' initial connection between Folders (of which the Toolbar is an instance) depends on name. Thus I expect you'll find that the "missing deletions" are in fact reflected in your bookmark set, but not in the folder that is being displayed as your toolbar. You can change which folder Firefox displays on the toolbar in the Manage Bookmarks view: click on a folder in the right-hand pane and then selected Edit -> Set As Toolbar Folder.
If this doesn't explain what you're seeing, I'll probably ask you to send me your logs. --Todd 17:19, 11 May 2006 (EDT)
Here's a snapshot after I did the following steps. --FRuG 22:24, 12 May 2006 (EDT)
  1. Create a new bookmakr folder. "Toolbar Folder"
  2. Moved all items from 'Bookmarks Toolbar Folder' to 'Toolbar Folder'.
  3. (Firefox crashed here)
  4. Started Firefox back up, and the first question was:
    • Seperator has moved, do you want to keep remote or local.
  5. Error dialog box. Image:Firefox_toolbar_moved_error.gif

2) See 'MediaWiki:Sidebar'.

Do you have a specific proposal? Our use of MediaWiki is, as you've no doubt observed, fairly primitive but we're open to suggestions. --Todd 17:19, 11 May 2006
No problem. Cool. Thanks for the response. I updated it above, give that a whirl and see how well it works. (You may have to 'cache reload' the page to see the updates.)
Nice! Thanks! It's up now, with only minor mods from what you proposed. I like it. --Todd 21:39, 11 May 2006 (EDT)

Foxmark - Suggestions

(This location is for my foxmark suggestions, and when fully developed/prioritized, I will post on Foxmarks:_Suggestions_for_Improvements page, cross checked with Foxmarks:_Known_Bugs.)

1) 'Verbose/debugging' mode for syncronizing

Show the differences (all at once, or one at a time) and give option to override auto-matic decision making. (Saw a good version of this when foxmarks was confused on some movements and asked questions from user)
Add 'foxmark' button in status bar
When clicked, force a sync
When hovered, shows the time of last sync.
Ability to change the 'hot key'.
To avoid conflicts with other extensions, allow user to pick hot key.
(either choose items from drop down, or allow user to press keys)
Ability to see one than one (all w/scroll?) status messages during sync'ing.
'Busy Syncing' or 'Server is Busy' are un-helpful messages. :)
Debug button, turn on display 'javascript'.
"A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. YOu can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete" [continue] [stop script]
 ????
Ability to change sync'ing times.
Frequency of 'checking for server updates'.
'Manual only'
'Only on local change'.
Ability to change/adjust the 'server busy' timeout amount.

What's the difference between [OK] and [Cancel] ???
ok, I give up.. what is it? :)

Bugs ?

5) "A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. YOu can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete" [continue] [stop script]

 ????
Seems to be connected with the fact that Foxmarks doesn't sync correctly.
Please see /wiki/Foxmarks:_Frequently_Asked_Questions#I_get_an_annoying_.22Script_is_unresponsive.22_message_when_Foxmarks_is_running._How_do_I_get_rid_of_it.3F for more info. --Todd 17:22, 11 May 2006 (EDT)
