Foxmarks: Disabling a Proxy Server

From Foxcloud Wiki

Foxmarks is known not to work well if you've using a proxy. Fortunately, a helpful user provided the following instructions for disabling a proxy server just for Foxmarks' communications with its own server. By following this procedure, you'll keep Foxmarks happy, and still be able to reap the benefits of using a proxy for your normal web browsing.

  1. In Firefox, go to Tools/Options.
  2. On the General tab, click "Connection Settings..."
  3. Under "Manual Proxy Configuration," there's an input box labelled "No Proxy for:" It automatically has "localhost, 127.0.0.1" and all you have to do is add in "sync.foxmarks.com" with a comma separating it from the rest.

(We've seen a particularly nasty problem with Symantec Enterprise 10.1; that server appears to block outgoing sync requests while indicating back to Foxmarks that it has actually processed that request. This can lead to loss of data.)
