Foxmarks: Fixed Bugs

From Foxcloud Wiki

  • Separators change to nameless entries for some unknown reason (Foxmarks running on Windows and Linux). Although, on my.foxcloud.com separators are displayed in a proper manner. Probably a similar problem to the one down this page. (sigi, 14:33, 27 January 2006 (CET)).
addition: separators disappeared on windows now. (sigi, 16:02, 27 January 2006 (CET))
Fixed in version 0.50. Thanks for reporting. --Todd 19:39, 30 January 2006 (EST)
  • If you press "Cancel" while Foxmarks is uploading a sync file, the sync file on the server can become corrupted.
This was fixed with a server upgrade to Cosmo 0.2.7, deployed 1/1/2006.
  • Email addresses, first names, and last names are limited to 32 characters max, which is too short. (Fixed in Foxmarks 0.40. Each of these fields may now be 128 characters long.) --Todd 16:22, 4 January 2006 (EST)
  • Internatinalization problem in my.foxcloud.com:
Bookmarks are uploaded in utf-8 format. when downloading them back everything is OK.
When viewing them in my.foxcloud, I see the UTF-8 code, rather than the international
 representation of the charecters
Confirmed. We'll try to get a fix in for this soon. Thanks for reporting it. --Todd 16:14, 19 December 2005 (EST)
Fixed. --Todd 19:42, 5 January 2006 (EST)
  • If user enters an invalid username/password for my.foxcloud.com, something bad happens.
Fixed. --Todd 19:42, 5 January 2006 (EST)
  • If you click the "Forgot username or password" link in the Setup Wizard, you get a "Resource Not Found" message.
The server folks changed the URL of the forgot page. This will be fixed in .45, as .44 is already in the chute. --Todd 21:08, 9 January 2006 (EST)
  • Problem with sync after the service came back up. No problem synching on one computer, but problem with my other. I've reinstalled, and rerun set-up to no avail. Firefox java console returns the following error:
Error: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80070057 (NS_ERROR_ILLEGAL_VALUE) [nsIRDFContainer.InsertElementAt]" nsresult: "0x80070057 (NS_ERROR_ILLEGAL_VALUE)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://foxmarks/content/foxmarks-sync.js :: ProcessExtras :: line 217" data: no]Source File: chrome://foxmarks/content/foxmarks-sync.js Line: 217
We believe we've identified and fixed the problem that you encountered. Please send us email at mailto:feedback@foxcloud.com so we can contact you about verifying the fix. --Todd 12:37, 7 January 2006 (EST)
  • Recently I've been getting a "Warning: Unresponsive script" popup. It says "A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete." Then you can select "Stop script" or "Continue".
Although we don't yet have a complete solution to this problem, a change we made in version .41 had the unfortunate side-effect of causing more people to experience this problem. We expect to be releasing .45 shortly, which should remedy this -- at least returning the problem back to the pre-.41 levels. If this is really bugging you, there's a work-around. --Todd 13:48, 11 January 2006 (EST)
  • I downloaded v0.51 today, using Firefox 1.5.0.1 and I am having problems registering a new account with the wizard. The error it gives is "Your account could not be created. Please check your settings and try again. Error is: Unknown error 400"
We can see that you're having a problem, but don't have any insight into what the cause is. Could you please contact us via email so we can work with you to resolve this? --Todd 17:51, 2 February 2006 (EST)
OK - I sorted it. The problem was that I was only giving it a 4 character password and I see from the sync page that it must be between 5 and 16 characters. I tried again and it worked. It checks for non-suitable characters (didn't like my ! for example) and alerts you - but doesn't alert for password length.
You're right! The fix for this will appear in the next version. Thanks for tracking it down. --Todd 21:01, 2 February 2006 (EST)
Fixed in 0.52. --Todd 19:07, 8 February 2006 (EST)
  • Running Foxmarks 0.51 & Firefox 1.5.0.1

I'm getting a synchronization error... Following Status: downloading sync file, I get Status: Failed to parse sync file

I have tried uploading bookmarks again in case the sync file was corrupted but made no difference. My bookmark file is large (too large?). User is taobrad.

When I log in to my.foxcloud.com I get the following error:

SAXParseException Python 2.4.2: /usr/local/bin/python Tue Feb 7 02:30:08 2006

A problem occurred in a Python script. Here is the sequence of function calls leading up to the error, in the order they occurred.

/home/foxcloud/www/my/bookmarks.py
 122
 123       mySink = TripleSink()
 124       rdfxml.parseRDF(f.read(), sink=mySink)...

I can include the entire error if needed.

We've seen this problem with users who have imported bookmarks from Opera. (Did you?) The source of the problem is invalid characters in the description fields within bookmarks. We'll try to get a fix out for this soon. It would help if you'd provide your Foxcloud username so we can investigate. --Todd 04:33, 7 February 2006 (EST)
Not Opera. I had bookmarks all over the place and the last group I imported before the problem started came from Sitebar which I exported as a Netscape Bookmark File and then imported into Firefox. My username is in bold above.
Fixed in 0.52. --Todd 19:07, 8 February 2006 (EST)
  • XML error when trying to synchronize bookmarks

I'm running Foxmarks 0.53 on Firefox 1.5.0.1. Starting today, when I start Firefox and Foxmarks attempts to synchronize, I first see a box telling me that Foxmarks doesn't know which version is the most current. When I tell it that the local version is most current, I get the following error:

XML Parsing Error: not well-formed
Location: chrome://foxmarks/content/foxmarks-folderconflict.xul
Line Number 18, Column 36:	<description>&folderconflict.desc2</description>
------------------------------------------^

If I then try to manually synchronize, I'm told that Foxmarks is busy. It remains busy until I restart Firefox and then the cycle begins anew.Seether295 12:57, 22 February 2006 (EST)

Good catch! It's amazing how a single semi-colon can ruin one's day. Anyway, we managed to slip the fix for this into version 0.54, which is available for download now. Thanks for finding and reporting this. --Todd 01:08, 23 February 2006 (EST)
Fixed in 0.55. --Todd 21:43, 27 February 2006 (EST)
  • Favicon-only bookmarks

On my.foxcloud.com, bookmarks with no title are unclickable, thus rendering most of my toolbar bookmarks unusable (since I usually navigate them by favicon alone). I can see why allowing icon upload would be bad, but even if it's not feasible could the default page icon on my.foxcloud at least be made clickable as well as any text(with a url showing up on hover)?

Fixed. --Todd 21:43, 27 February 2006 (EST)
  • Error: Conflicting types?

I'm running .054 on firefox 1.5.0.1

I recieve the following error whenever I try to manually sync, or it automatically tries:

Error: Conflicting types of rdf:#uy1Jw1
Local: http://home.netscape.com/NC-rdf#Folder
Remote: http://home.netscape.com/NC-rdf#BookmarkSeparator
------------------------------------------^

I think the cause may be that I have foxmarks installed on both a copy of portable firefox, and firefox on my desktop. Do they somehow handle bookmarkes differently? Different directories? Pete0r 12:08, 23 February 2006 (EST)

Something has definitely gone awry, but I doubt it has anything to do with Portable FF. Please send us your log files and we'll have a look. --Todd 11:50, 23 February 2006 (EST)
Sent! Thanks. --Pete0r 12:08, 23 February 2006 (EST)
Todd: I tried emailing you several times, but each time the email bounces because of your spam software. I deleted the livebookmark that you said was causing issues and all seems to be well now. Thanks! --Pete0r 10:38, 24 February 2006 (EST)
This is believed to be a bug in the call to Merge() that was fixed in 0.56. --65.106.67.2 15:02, 28 February 2006 (EST)
I try to synch my bookmarks today with 0.59 and it is happen again (see my Bug report) --Murphy 11:23, 23 March 2006 (GMT)

  • When attempting to view my bookmarks on my.foxcloud.com using IE 6, after logging in (which works just fine), I'm presented with a blank screen. View source shows me that all the proper html is present, but presumably some tag or another is causing IE to not display the content.
Confirmed. Thanks for reporting this. --Todd 13:44, 22 December 2005 (EST)
The two <script ... /> elements seem to prevent display. When I change them to <script ...></script> IE 6 at least displays something. (Thomas Baumann, 14 Feb 2006)
We really need a fix for this --Josh
This bug appears to be fixed, although it appears that folders are not collapsable in IE.
If anyone familiar with the peculiarities of IE wants to chip in with some advice here, we're all ears. --Todd 03:06, 14 March 2006 (EST)
Fixed 3/27/2006. --Todd 10:35, 28 March 2006 (EST)
  • If you use the Bookmark manager to copy & paste bookmarks, they don't sync properly. --Todd 20:46, 22 March 2006 (EST)
Fixed in Foxmarks 0.61. --Todd 01:05, 2 April 2006 (EST)
  • If you add separators to a folder that is conflicted, the separators disappear when you sync.
Confirmed. --Todd 17:40, 17 January 2006 (EST)
Fixed in 0.63.
  • When I did the sync such error message appeared:

Error_when_doing_sync.jpg

version 0.59 --Murphy 11:13, 23 March 2006 (GMT)

Your sync file definitely has some problems -- several bookmarks/folders got dropped and turned into separators. Can you please send us the log files from all of your machines? --Todd 12:02, 23 March 2006 (EST)
I put the log files from my 3 machines here: http://pulstar.albedo.art.pl/~murphy/defects/foxmark/
Files "R" and "M" are the logs from the machines where everything is OK. The "I" is form the one where I got this error message. --Murphy 00:44, 24 March 2006 (GMT+1)
We believe that whatever caused this problem, it's unlikely to appear again given a fix implemented in version 0.61. --Todd 16:42, 4 April 2006 (EDT)
