I'm getting an error with Norton Security and Foxmarks 0.89. Firefox 2.0.0.3. It keeps telling me there's been an intrusion attempt from my own pc! The problem seems to be stemming from Norton thinking Foxmarks is a worm "HTTP Macromedia Long Filename BO". I've just turned it off so Foxmarks is now synchronizing again, but if I turn it on again, it won't synchronize the bookmarks because Norton is throwing a hissy fit with that same error. Any ideas on this? It's just started as of 3/31/07. 208.201.229.239 17:06, 31 March 2007 (EDT)

I am getting the sync error too, same Foxmarks/Firefox versions as above on MS Vista. Introduced by Norton Intrusion Prevention Signature File Version: 3/30/2007 Rev. 2. Intrusion Prevention Engine Version: 3.0.0.60809. Mikec214 01:54, 1 April 2007 (EDT)

Add me to the list for the above error. 211.28.195.161 09:23, 1 April 2007 (EDT)

I also am getting the same error. Norton firewall reports the same HTTP Macromedia Long Filename BO error. This appears to have started as previously stated on 3/31/07. Firefox 2.0.0.3 Foxmarks .89 4/2/07 69.40.31.171 13:29, 2 April 2007 (EDT)

I’m not sure 0.90 has fully sorted the/my favicons problems. Here’s how it is for me:

Firefox 2.0.0.3 and Foxmarks 0.90

I don’t like favicons, so I have set browser.chrome.favicons and browser.chrome.site_icons both to false

Several of my bookmarks have favicons showing (some of which are incorrect)

If I disable Foxmarks and restart Firefox, I get no favicons (which is what I want)

When I re-enable Foxmarks and restart Firefox, the same favicons return

Hope this is clear!

Thanks for a great addon, it’s invaluable!

  • I am running Firefox 2.0.0.3. I need to use HTTPS instead of HTTP or FTP to connect to the Foxmark server. However, Firefox is flagging the security certificate you present as a possible forgery, since it's coming from Foxmark.com, but it says the security certificate says FoxCLOUD.com. Please match your security certificate with your domain name. Tomcarlson 16:29, 29 March 2007 (EDT)

  • I have two machines running Firefox 2.0.0.2, one with XP and the other with Ubuntu 6.10. When I make a change to my bookmarks on the XP machine I can see it on the Ubuntu machine. But when I make a change on the Ubuntu machine, I don't see it on the XP machine unless I use the maintenance "download now". The auto update and manual sync options just say no changes found. When I login to foxmarks.com I see the change. I have deleted and remade my account, reinstall foxmark on both machines and still the same problem. Matt, diyaudio@mchsi.com

  • I notice Foxmarks continues to delete and lose my bookmarks that I place in the "Bookmarks Toolbar Folder." For example, I like to put sites I routinely check directly on my browser so that I can click on them directly. Foxmarks seems to disregard these set of links entirely. Furthermore, it proceeds to delete the ones that already exist on the local machine!

  • I notice that recently after I upgraded to 0.89, the synchronized date is always 2/15/2007 after I restart my computer or close all the browers and restart again (not sure which one). I try again and it appears correct the first time, but next time when I open foxmarks menu it shows 2/15/2007 AGAIN, and it is the old one so that it is not up-to-date. In addition, even after I synchronize it the bookmark still does not update. I am not sure if I am the only one encounter with this problem. Please help solve this issue.

  • I have noticed that the password strength rules are not the same between foxmarks 0.84 download and foxmarks.com. In particular, the online version allows special characters such as the # sign, while the foxmarks extension does not.
  • Several of Bookmarks Toolbars Folder's subfolders' bookmarks turned into separators in Foxmarks 0.84 on Firefox 2.0 on Windows XP SP2. Uploading correct bookmarks displayed them correctly in my.foxmarks.com. After redownload bookmarks were fixed except livemarks, that remained still as separators.

  • Unable to create an account on foxcloud.com using wizard in Foxmarks 0.84 on Firefox 1.5.0.9 on Ubuntu Dapper (6.06). After entering new account details and hitting the next button I get an empty dialog box saying Status: with a help and cancel button (yes, I've seen this entry, but I'm not running Mac OSX and reinstalling didn't help). The following events happen with the dialog:
    • if I close the dialog I get an alert saying "Your account could not be created. Please check your settings and sty again. Error is (null)."
    • if I select Help the dialog disappears and I'm back in the wizard.
    • if I select Cancel nothing happens.

Despite the platform differences, this likely is the same problem that you reference -- Foxmarks is not fully installed. If you deinstall, restart, and reinstall (3rd time's the charm?) it'll probably fix it. --Todd 19:04, 16 January 2007 (EST)
Thanks Todd. OK, I tried to uninstall, restart, and reinstall several times to no avail. I noticed that Firefox was segfaulting when restarting after both an install and an uninstall (but not otherwise), so I uninstalled another extension (ColorZilla) to see if the same behaviour presented. When I restarted (sans segfault) I was presented with a preferences dialog for Adblock Plus (which I've had installed for a while) and then when I tried Foxmarks it all worked, both the setup wizard and the sync. So, there seems to be some interplay between the extensions that is interfering with the configuration stage. ColorZilla doesn't work completely on Linux at the moment, so perhaps that's the root cause. When I reinstalled ColorZilla I was able to sync without hassle and use the setup wizard. Anyway, I hope that gives you some leads. Thanks, by the way, for a great extension. 203.214.88.197 06:44, 17 January 2007 (EST)

Deleted live bookmarks return and multipy.

I synchronise bookmarks between my home and work computers. I have a number of live feeds/bookmarks about XML topics. For some reason, these start multiplying, for example, from having just one dita-users feed from the [1] page, I now have about twenty. When I delete the superfluous feeds at work, synchronising does not delete on the home computer. Deleting on both work and home computers lasts until the next synchronisation. Then they start multiplying again. Any ideas? It would be good if you could delete them on the Foxmarks site.

  • Using Foxmarks 0.84 on Windows with Firefox 2.0.0.1, I can't sync any more - get "Foxmarks is busy". Last successful sync was at 9.20 am GMT so perhaps this is a server issue. No JavaScript errors from Foxmarks visible in Firefox Error Console. I also tried upgrading to 0.88 and downgrading to 0.80 without effect. On 0.80, what happens is that Foxmarks says "downloading sync file" for a few seconds, then "Copying local file to remote" for a very long time (tens of minutes) and then eventually "Connection reset". Very frustrating as Foxmarks has been working fine for ages on both Ubuntu Linux and Windows. --Richard

  • Trying to create an account using an Email address containing a plus symbol (+) fails with the error "Please enter a valid Email address". This is a valid, and very common character used in the local portion of email addresses as well as several other characters, thus it should be allowed. See the "Limitations" secition of this article, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Email_address , for all the valid characters. --Jon Firefox 1.5.0.4 On Ubuntu Dapper w/ Foxmarks v.0.72
  • Line breaks in bookmark comments become underscores when I syncronize my bookmarks across the latest version of Firefox on Windows XP and Ubuntu Dapper.
  • I loose my bookmark icons after syncing

  • I am using Wizz RSS News Reader [2] and every time when I read a news Foxmarks starts a synchronization, so browser became locked for 10 seconds (I changed a dom timeout) and eventually message box that script is running to long appears (btw, in most cases message box appear under FF window, so it is easy to miss it). So it is hard to use RSS reader when Foxmarks is on. Is there any way to workaround that?

Andrey

Foxmarks 0.67/Wizz 2.1.2.0/Firefox 1.5.0.3/Windows XP Pro SP2

Andrey, unfortunately the only work-around I can recommend right now is to disable automatic synchronization. But a 10 second lock-up sounds really bad. Can you please provide some additional specs for your machine, e.g., how much RAM, processor speed, etc. Also, if you could provide your username (via email if you prefer) that would be helpful, too. --Todd 21:06, 14 May 2006 (EDT)
  • I also see the lock ups (5sec), too. (AMD 4200 X2 machine, WinXP home SP2) so maybe there
should be an option to say autosync on startup/on close or an option to sync every x
 minutes.. (Foxmark 0.72)

Ralf

I get parked occasionally on two computers using v0.80 on v1.5.0.7. One's an AMD Sempron 3000 and the other's an Intel P4 2.4GHz, both running WinXP Pro SP2 with at least 1 GB RAM. Both also have Norton AntiVirus, FreeRAM XP Pro, and Google Desktop.—Nayhem 21:38, 27 September 2006 (EDT)

JohnD - I am experiencing a similar problem when trying to 'view items / feeds' in wizz despite updates to v.72 and 2.1.3 - namely foxmarks sync runs. Not a major problem but annoying. thanks John -- 05:06, 26 May 2006 (EDT) Foxmarks 0.72/Wizz 2.1.3.0/Firefox 1.5.0.3/Windows XP Pro SP2

  • If I restore bookmarks by copying bookmarks.html, subsequent synchronizations go badly.
If you need to restore your bookmarks for some reason, it's important that you do an upload (from the "Other" tab in the Foxmarks dialog) immediately afterwards. Otherwise, the results will be unpredictable. But probably not what you wanted. --Todd 17:20, 4 April 2006 (EDT)
  • Changes to Live Bookmarks URLs not propagated (?)

Using Foxmarks 0.56, I had to change URLs for two feeds recently, e.g. from "http ://my.opera.com/desktopteam/xml/atom/blog/" to "http ://my.opera.com/desktopteam/xml/rss/blog/". This change was not reflected on my other computers (as far as I can see). As I can't check Live Bookmarks URLs on My Foxmarks to see if they were uploaded, you'd have to have a look. --Thomas 04:37, 13 March 2006 (EST)

This is a known limitation of the sync algorithm. Your best bet is to create a new Livemark with the correct url and delete the old one. --Todd 03:04, 14 March 2006 (EST)
  • If the clocks on your PC's are not relatively closely in sync, it's possible to lose data. This isn't a problem for most Windows users, as Windows has a built-in NTP client that automatically keeps your clocks in sync. If you're on Mac OSX, follow instructions such as these to ensure that your clock is kept in sync. For Linux users: save yourself some heartache and install an NTP client. --Todd 17:22, 11 January 2006 (EST)
  • If you change server settings in the Foxmarks Dialog, the "Last Sync:" date doesn't update until you sync, or save settings and re-open the dialog box.
  • Mac only: when the Foxmarks dialog is open, it's not possible to open other windows (e.g., the Bookmark Manager, Extension Manager, etc.)
Actually, on closer examination, it appears that the Bookmark Manager opens, but opens behind all other windows. I've filed a bug (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=315143) on this.
  • Mac only: when you open the Extensions Manager, the "Foxmarks..." menu item disappears from the Bookmarks menu.
  • Separators don't paint properly in the folder sequence conflict window.
Temporarily, these are being displayed as a sequences of dashes ("------") until we can figure out how Mozilla paints these. It's an ongoing mystery.
  • Foxmarks doesn't merge items in the Bookmarks Toolbar folder if the Bookmarks Toolbar is named differently on my computers.
This can be a problem for users who are merging across platforms and also for users who are merging across different locales.
Same problem for me syncing between several Windows and Linux computers. --bse99 84.59.41.212 13:53, 10 January 2007 (EST)
To be more precise: Beside the "standard" Bookmarks Toolbar folder, naming varies from system to system, Foxmarks additionally creates these folders as undeletable folders named: "Bookmarks Toolbar Folder" and "Lesezeichen-Symbolleisten-Ordner" (german). Screenshot / logfile / additional info can be provided on request. --bse99 85.10.195.133 02:25, 11 January 2007 (EST)
  • Foxmarks keyboard shortcut for syncronizing can conflict with other extension shortcuts (most notably: disable CSS on the web developer toolbar.) What's more, the shortcut can't be changed anywhere (that I can find.) This is liable to make me stop using the service until I can change that...
Check out this page for some suggested work-arounds. --Todd 17:06, 20 September 2006 (EDT)
  • Foxmarks uses 100% of the cpu on linux 0.84 when synchronizing. I have a P4 3.0 GHz Hyperthreaded Processor with 1GB Ram Fedora Core 2.6.18-1.2868.fc6 Kernel . Startup is painful while it takes my bookmarks to synchronize and those moments wwhen I'm using something cpu intensive pretty much stops. I did notice that I had some dirty bookmarks. I submitted my logs. Noah Swint nswint@hotmail.71.56.0.225 19:32, 4 January 2007 (EST)

  • Attempt to install FoxMarks on Firefox 2.0.0.1 on SuSe Linux 10.1 (on Dell PowerEdge 600SC) fails with error on line 3849 in /usr/local/firefox/components/nsExtensionManager.js - AdamReed 02:49, 21 December 2006 (EST)
This is unlikely to be a Foxmarks bug per se -- lots of people are running Foxmarks on Linux installations. Have you tried downloading the extension again? Have you been able to install other extensions? What exactly is the error that's presented? --Todd 12:31, 22 December 2006 (EST)
You were right - I could not install other extensions either, with the same error, unless Firefox was running as Root, a very dangerous work-around on a Linux system. I was able to install Foxmarks as root, but when I run Firefox under my normal (reasonably safe) ordinary user login the Foxmarks Wizard does not appear, and there is no entry for Foxmarks in the Firefox menu, so I have no way of bringing up the Foxmarks Wizard manually. So, what can I do to be able to actually use Foxmarks? - AdamReed 15:41, 23 December 2006 (EST)
You shouldn't have to run as root to install extensions. I think you should take up this general problem with the good folks at Mozilla -- they're in a better position to advise you. If you learn something that might be useful for other users, please let us know. --Todd 16:54, 24 December 2006 (EST)
  • synchronizing bookmarks gives an error message:
 Error: Conflicting types of rdf:#$HvPhC3
 Local: http://home.netscape.com/NC-rdf#Folder
 Remote: http://home.netscape.com/NC-rdf#Bookmark

When I click OK, I'm asked which bookmark to keep (local or remote), but after "solving" appr 20 "conflicting" bookmarks that way, a new popup is displayed:

 Status: Cancelled by user

(While I didn't cancel anything)

A similar bug was already reported earlier and marked as solved as of v0.56 (/wiki/Foxmarks:_Fixed_Bugs), but apparently I'm (still) having similar issues. I'm using Firefox v2.0 with v0.84 of foxmarks. Initially I was using firefox v1.5.0.8 with formarks v0.84, but thought it might have something to do with the version of firefox, because I already synced my bookmarks with foxmarks v0.84 and firefox 2.0 on another system before, but apparently the firefox version isn't the culprit

--84.197.30.6 08:30, 19 December 2006 (EST)
What you point out is a real problem, and not necessarily one that Foxmarks can very easily handle. The ID referenced above is one associated with one of the default Firefox bookmarks (i.e., one that shows up in a brand-new Firefox profile). On one machine, it's associated with a folder, on the other with a bookmark -- we've never seen this before. Foxmarks internally cancels the sync because there's no way for it to resolve this problem itself. Contact us via email and we'll help you sort it out manually. --Todd 00:27, 20 December 2006 (EST)

  • Favicons disappear after (first) sync - reported by cheski (jbfrank-at-yahoo.com)
Yes, I had the same, though this may not be a bug. Firefox sometimes does not show the Favicon after you add a link to bookmarks but it will show it after a click on that bookmark. Yet, I feel like something could be done about this. --some_anon-- 08:17, 10 February 2006 (EST)

Foxmarks 0.67: After synchronisation favicons disappear. Some return when you click on the link but others e.g. Amazon & eBay don't. No idea why this should be.

Using 0.71 right now but I'm still losing favicons after sync. I would be very cool to sync these as well so when another computer gets new bookmarks it goes ahead and gets the favicons as well.

Using 0.72 on two XP machines right now, I'm losing favicons too. Up to now, not one returned after going to the appropriate homepage... Sad, it helped orienting much faster...

0.80 I've lost favicons too on all my sync'd computers. Shame, it's the only negative against this great piece of work. It would be great if there was a 'refresh favicons' option.

.084 2 XP machines, lost some favicons, but not others (kept Blogger & Google only) 10/26/2006
